PROJECTS

Developing the Social Relationship Expectations Scale

Based on the Social Relationship Expectations (SRE) Framework, a new loneliness theory, we are developing a global instrument to help tailor loneliness interventions to individuals and diverse contexts.

Understanding the role of social (dis)connection for health outcomes during extreme weather events

Older adults are more likely to die following a storm or heat wave. In a systematic review, we are synthesizing evidence to investigate whether people who live alone or are isolated are less likely to survive an extreme weather event.

Book project on aging, loneliness, and climate change

The intersection of climate change and social connection is emerging area of research, as described in our Review article in Nature Health. In this edited volume, we bring together experts from 6 continents and different disciplines to better understand this intersection of fields in the context of global population aging.

Global perspectives on loneliness research and interventions

Loneliness is a global concern and, contrary to common belief, particularly prevalent in lower-income countries. We try to understand loneliness in diverse settings, e.g., by conducting mixed-methods and participatory research with older adults from Myanmar.
